Western Sydney International Airport — known simply as WSI and officially named Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport — is Australia’s newest major airport, set to begin operations in late 2026. Located in Badgerys Creek, about 44 km west of Sydney’s CBD, WSI will serve as Sydney’s second major international hub and the nation’s first new greenfield international airport in over 50 years.

Designed for domestic, international, and cargo flights from day one, the airport will operate 24/7 without curfew restrictions, providing more choice and capacity for travellers and airlines. It features a single terminal and a 3.7 km runway capable of accommodating the largest commercial aircraft, including the Airbus A380. Initial passenger capacity is projected at around 10 million passengers annually, with significant expansion potential as demand grows.
Beyond aviation, WSI is expected to be a major economic driver for Western Sydney, creating thousands of jobs and supporting new commercial, logistics and property developments. Major road and rail upgrades are underway to improve connectivity between the airport and Greater Sydney.
Named in honour of pioneering aviator Nancy-Bird Walton, the airport represents innovation, sustainability and opportunity for the region’s future.
